The collaboration between the Chinese car brand Seres and tech and smartphone manufacturer Huawei goes a step further. We are introduced to Aito, a new brand founded by both companies that immediately presents its first car.
Huawei and Seres entered into a partnership earlier this year. For example, Huawei sells the SF5 from Seres, but the collaboration between the two Chinese companies now goes a step further. Huawei and Seres come up with a new car brand: Aito. Aito, which stands for ‘Adding Intelligence to Auto’, immediately presents its firstborn: the M5.
The Aito M5 is not basically a completely new model, in fact it is a modified version of the already mentioned Seres SF5. The Aito M5 has its own front with, among other things, a different grille and bumper, but there is more. The M5 has its own windows, different doors and a completely own rear. The interior also differs from that of the Seres SF5 with which the car shares its technology. The car is 4.77 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2.88 meters. The distance between the front and rear axle is therefore equal to that of the SF5, but the M5 is 7 centimeters longer.
Aito M5
Like the Seres SF5, the M5 is electrically powered, but the SUV also has a combustion engine. The M5 has a 125 hp 1.5 turbo engine under the hood that works as a generator for the 40 kWh battery pack. The M5 will be available with both rear and four-wheel drive. The four-wheel drive version is basically 428 hp strong. The electric motor on the front axle delivers 224 hp, the one that drives the rear wheels kicks it up to 204 hp. There will also be a Performance version with a system power of 496 hp.
Inside the M5 we find a 15.6-inch infotainment system that runs on software from Huawei (Harmony OS). Behind the wheel is a 10.4-inch digital instrumentation. Striking is the camera mounted on the driver’s side on the inside of the A-pillar with which the M5 recognizes the driver and adjusts various settings based on this. The first copies of the Aito M5 will hit the Chinese market in the spring of 2022. A year later, Aito presents its second model.
