Most travelers are familiar with the OV chip card. But everyone can sometimes forget to check out after a trip. Receive an e-mail alert at such a time and request a refund.
Forgotten check-out warning
An OV chip card is required to travel in the Netherlands by train, tram, bus or metro. More than three million people use the card every week. With numbers like that, it makes sense that travelers forget to check out every day. Have you ever forgotten to go through a check-out? Then request a refund via Uitcheckgemist.nl.
Reclaim balance
To request a refund, first fill in the details of the OV chip card at Uitcheckgemist.nl. Then view the journeys made and select the journey with missed check-out and indicate the stop or station.
Sign up for alert
In addition to requesting a balance refund, it is also possible to register for an alert on the website. From now on you will receive an email when you can request a refund.
- Open an internet browser and surf to uitcheckgemist.nl
- Click on the blue box on the right Register now or change/end.
- Enter your number under ‘OV chip card number’. The first four digits are already filled in.
- Under ‘Valid until’, enter the date stated on the card.
- Put a tick in front of I am the rightful holder of this OV chip card and I give permission to show journeys for which I have not checked out.
- click on Next step.
- Enter your email address and click To register.
The registration will be confirmed by email. If you forget to check out in the future, you will receive an alert. After missing a check-out, it is not possible to immediately request a refund. The ride must first be registered. This is usually within fourteen days of the trip. The e-mail will not be sent until the ride has been registered. It is therefore pointless to quickly walk back to the check-out pole.
