Alfa Romeo GTV (1996) – Enthusiast Wanted

Enjoy extravagance

Alfa Romeo GTV (1996) – Enthusiast Wanted

Do you like a healthy dose of extravagance, Italian temperament and a nice drive? Then this Alfa Romeo GTV might be something for you. By no means perfect, but that’s why it’s also very fun.

Many people buy an Alfa Romeo not just because they need a car, but because, for example, they have a soft spot for Italian design, the history of the brand, the sometimes slightly idiosyncratic technical choices that have been made, the extravagance, the style. However, one Alfa is not the same as the other. Over the years, models have appeared that appeal to a wide audience and models that have always remained for the connoisseur. The Alfa Romeo GTV falls into the second category. It never became a resounding success and yet it is still an appealing piece of the brand’s history.

The Alfa Romeo GTV (and its open brother Spider) was an Alfa Romeo pur sang, in the sense that it was an extravagantly designed car with a healthy dose of sportiness. Especially if you had the 3.0 V6 (from 1997 as a 24-valve) or later the 3.2 V6, you had a very fast car. This copy from 1996 has the middle option on board at the time; a blown 2.0-liter version of the same V6. You were quite the man with that too. With 200 hp, a 0-100 time of 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 235 km/h, you were quite impressive 27 years ago.

Whether all 200 horses are still there remains to be seen after such a time and almost 190,000 km. In any case, the car is still in very good condition based on the photos. The inside also looks neat and even the leather on the driver’s seat seems to have stood the test of time quite well. According to the provider, major maintenance was carried out only 5,000 km ago and the timing belt was also replaced, which is of course nice. Moreover, it would be a GTV with the ‘Modena package’, which, according to the provider, includes chip tuning up to 240 hp, a modified chassis and these alloy wheels. We can’t find anything more about this at the moment, but we would like to hear from you in the comments if anyone can remember such a package. The price tag for this nice Alfa: €7,499.
