Alfa Romeo shows off mysterious ‘Tonale taillights’

How ‘new’ is this ‘era’?

Alfa Romeo shows off mysterious ‘Tonale taillights’

Alfa Romeo shows a mysterious picture. Taillights shine from an otherwise completely black background, but we have seen those light units before. The question is: what exactly do we see here?

It seems clear that the rear lights in question are from a Tonale. Of course, the latest Alfa SUV serves as a design blueprint for future Alfas. They get similar rear lights, but in this case the light pattern follows exactly that of a Tonale. Anyone who does not believe us is gently referred to photos 3 and 4, on which we have superimposed two images.

The accompanying letter to the image, which we were pointed out by Carscoops, is ‘A new era begins’. That suggests significant news, in the form of a body style or powertrain that we do not yet know from Alfa Romeo. Thoughts soon turned to a fully electric Tonale, but the arrival of such a model is extremely uncertain. After all, the Alfa Romeo Tonale is still on an ‘old’ platform that is shared with models from Jeep, among others, and can therefore not simply be fully electrified. Yet there has already been speculation about such a Tonale EV, so it is possible. Another option is a sporty top version of the Tonale, a Quadrifoglio. But that is not exactly a ‘New Era’ for Alfa Romeo, which seems to us to be a somewhat unfortunate choice of sentence.

In any case, a surprise is in store at Alfa Romeo. Do you think you know what it is? Feel free to share!
