A flash fine from France, maybe it looks familiar to you. Quite a few Dutch people ran into the (flash) lamp again last year. Yet it is residents of many other countries that make it even more colorful in France in that regard.
France has calculated how many speeding tickets have been issued in 2020 and now also shares the nationality of the speeders. Most of the fines went to Belgium: a total of 245,856 Belgians received a French official report. The Spaniards are in second place with 219,704 violations. The British finish in third place with 210,474 fines, in 2019 the English were still comfortably in first place with more than 442,000 fines.
The Netherlands is only in seventh place. Germans, Romanians and Italians (in that order) were more likely to be the losers. In total, 139,997 Dutch people received unwanted mail from France last year. In the past year, the British escaped the dance: since December 31, 2020, there is no longer an exchange agreement between France and the United Kingdom, so they can race past a speed camera with impunity.

Due to the corona measures, the number of speeding offenses recorded by speed cameras decreased by 21.6 percent. That is what Antai calculated, the French equivalent of our Central Judicial Collection Agency. Of the 13 million fines issued in France last year, 11.2 million went to a French driver and 1.9 million to a foreign driver. In total, there were 1,907,926 official reports for foreigners, compared to 2,432,406 prints in 2019, when corona did not yet play a role.
