Alpine is pulling the curtain on a new version of the A110 this week. The Alpine A110 R promises to surpass the existing A110s on a few fronts, now we know that it is at least a faster sprinter.
At a time when the car world is dominated by crossovers, electric newcomers and more and more gadgets for semi-autonomous driving, the Alpine A110 is a wonderful exception. The sporty coupe with mid-engine and rear-wheel drive is in itself not to be sneezed at by some, but Alpine thinks it could be a bit more fun. That’s why it comes with the more extreme R version, which will be unveiled later this week. We recently got a sneak peek and now Alpine offers some more information.
The Alpine A110 R is lighter, sharper and gets aerodynamic extras, including a faster sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. Alpine already reports that the A110 R that sprint in just 3.9 seconds. That is 0.3 seconds faster than the still fastest A110, the A110 S. Whether that is due to more power for the 1.8 turbo engine or whether it is due to the weight reduction, among other things, remains to be seen. In the A110 S and A110 GT, that power source delivers 300 hp, in the regular A110 252 hp. The top speed of the Alpine A110 R is also higher at 285 km/h. The A110 GT and A110 S reach 260 km/h, the entry-level 250 km/h.
