Google comes with the beta of Android 12L for Pixel phones. Android 12L includes improvements that are mainly aimed at tablets and foldable smartphones. However, you can already get started with the beta version on Google’s phones and we explain how you can do that.
Android 12L
In October, Google introduced Android 12L, a package of improvements mainly related to the Android interface and the operation of apps. The operating system is smarter with extra screen space and that should provide a better experience on tablets, foldable smartphones and Chromebooks.
When you swipe down on a tablet or foldable, you’ll see the quick settings on the left side of the screen and notifications appear on the right. Multitasking should also be smoother, thanks to a taskbar at the bottom of the screen that lets you swipe apps up to open them in the left or right section.

Install Android 12L
With the developer preview of Android 12L in October, developers were already able to get started with the new software version on the Lenovo P12 Pro. From then on, they were able to optimize their apps with all the new APIs that Google offers, so that their apps function better on larger screens.

From now on you can also get started with Android 12L if you have a Pixel device. The new version is already available for testing on the Pixel 3a (XL), Pixel 4 (XL), Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro. It’s not difficult at all to participate, because you can just register through this page. Once that’s done, you’ll receive a notification on your phone as soon as you’re ready to start using the Android 12L beta.
Keep in mind that this is testing software, so you can expect errors here and there. If that is not a problem, you can safely install this update. Were you previously subscribed to the Android 12 beta? In that case, you don’t have to do anything, because you will receive the update automatically.
Android 12L Timeline
Already with the launch of the developer preview in October, Google brought more clarity about the update schedule for the new Android version. Beta updates were scheduled for December, January and February. After that, the stable version is expected.
