A fairly new child car seat recently fell through in a crash test. The entire seat, the Chicco Kiros i-Size, can separate from the car seats. The ANWB therefore advises not to use this seat.
The test was carried out by the German Stiftung Warentest and the ADAC, the German equivalent of the ANWB. In both the frontal and the side impact test the connection between the Isofix chassis and the child seat failed. This caused the child seat with child dummy in it to detach from the chassis and flew forward. In the event of a collision in practice, a child can be seriously injured as a result, the ANWB concludes. The seat is intended for children aged 0 to 15 months. The test was carried out at a speed of 64 km / h.
The Chicco Kiros is a new product and has only been available since July 2020. It is therefore plausible that not many of them have been sold yet. The ANWB has not yet found the seat at Dutch (web) shops. Anyone who has already bought such a seat and still wants to use it, must mount it directly on the rear seat with the seat belt and not just on the Isofix chassis, says the ANWB. It is important that the seat belt is correctly guided through the anchorages and that it is properly tensioned. This way of mounting does offer good protection in the event of an accident.
