MacBook Air 2022 with brand new design official
This is it: the new MacBook Air! Apple announced the laptop at its WWDC event on Monday, June 6. The device is a major improvement in many respects. This is immediately apparent in the design of the MacBook Air 2022, which looks very different from its predecessor.
1. Brand New M2 Chip
The new MacBook Air is the first MacBook with a new M2 chip. This is a lot more energy efficient than the M1. The chip has also become 18 percent faster. Still, the processor feels much faster than ‘just’ 18 percent. This is mainly due to its new GPU, which makes gaming a lot smoother, for example.
2. Refreshed design
The MacBook Air 2022 has been completely redesigned. For example, the 13.6-inch retina screen has much thinner edges and a notch. The sloping housing is now proportional, making the laptop more like the MacBook Pro. It is available in Silver, Starlight (Gold), Midnight (Dark Blue) and Space Gray.
3. MagSafe is back
Just like the MacBook Pro 2021, the MacBook Air 2022 also has a MagSafe charging port. This means that from now on you can trip over your cable undisturbed again – without having to immediately take your laptop off the table. There are also a 3.5 mm headphone input and two USB-C ports on board.
4. Small but Important Improvements
Do you regularly watch movies with your MacBook? The new MacBook Air has four speakers that support Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio. There’s also an improved 1080p FaceTime camera, making you look a lot better while video calling. With Apple’s new charger (which the manufacturer will sell separately) you can charge the battery of the MacBook Air 2022 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. This battery lasts up to 18 hours on a full charge.
5. Price and availability
The MacBook Air 2022 will be available from July for a price of 1519 euros. This has made it a lot more expensive than its predecessor. The M1 MacBook Air will also remain available; this one costs 1219 euros.
New entry-level MacBook Pro also announced
In addition to the MacBook Air 2022, Apple also comes with a new entry-level version of the MacBook Pro. This retains the ‘old’ design, with thicker screen edges and without a notch. However, it is equipped with the new M2 chip, which makes it a lot faster and more energy-efficient than its predecessor.
