Apple just unveiled the MacBook Air 2026 and it’s faster than ever. But what else has gotten better?
Apple MacBook Air 2026 release: this is new
Apple has just announced the MacBook Air 2026 and the popular laptop has once again received the same super-thin Air design. But under the hood, Apple has given the MacBook Air 2026 quite a significant update.
The MacBook Air 2025 had an M4 chip and it is fast. But the MacBook Air 2026 now has the new M5 chip. This new chip makes the Air a lot faster. Apple gives the example that 3D rendering with ray tracing in Blender is up to 6.5x faster than on a MacBook Air with M1. And up to 1.5x faster than with MacBook Air with an M4. But you will also notice this speed gain if you often run many heavy apps or use many apps at the same time.
Furthermore, the MacBook now has more storage as standard (512 GB instead of 256 GB), but it doesn’t stop there. Apple has also equipped the MacBook Air 2026 with an N1 chip. This N1 chip ensures that WiFi 7 now comes to the MacBook Air. That means faster internet and a more stable wireless connection.
The N1 chip also has support for Bluetooth 6. You won’t notice much of this in practice, but it does ensure that the connection of your wireless accessories is a bit faster.
And this is still the same
However, many things remain the same. In terms of size, you can choose from a 13 inch or 15 inch. So are you going for easy to carry with a 13 inch MacBook Air 2026? Or do you want a little more screen and opt for the 15 inches?
Touch ID is also present again, allowing you to log in to the laptop quickly and securely. In addition, the entry-level model again has 16 GB of RAM. The colors are also the same. You still have the choice of sky blue, silver, starlight and midnight.

The standard version of the MacBook Air 2026 is slightly more expensive than the standard version of the MacBook Air 2025. But you now get twice as much storage. These are all prices at a glance:
