Apple announces new iMac

Apple announced a new iMac on Tuesday evening. It is the first iMac designed entirely around the new M1 chip.

What immediately stood out with the presentation of the new iMac is that the new computer has become very colorful and will be available in no less than seven different colors, including green, yellow, orange and blue. Apple concealed the screen edges a bit, but the iMac has got a large bar at the bottom of the screen, in which we find the new speakers, among other things. The 24-inch screen is 11 millimeters thick and supports 11.3 million pixels, or 4.5K Retina.

In the older models, the various chips and the processor still took up a lot of space, but that now seems a thing of the past, partly thanks to the M1 chip and two small fans to keep the device cool. These also ensure that the iMac is also a lot quieter than its predecessor and remains below 10 decibels in normal use.

Microphone, camera and speakers

Apple left no doubt on Tuesday night that the new iMac is in many ways better than its predecessors. According to the company, it has the “best microphone, speakers and camera” in a Mac ever.

The camera in the new iMac supports 1080p and can automatically adjust the image for the best settings, while the three microphones and six speakers take your video calls and music to the next level, among other things. The iMac also has 4 USB-C ports, including two Thunderbolt connections, and offers the possibility to connect a 6K screen.

Faster processor

Under the hood we also find the necessary improvements, allowing the iMac to start immediately when you press the power button and making the iMac faster when surfing the internet, editing videos or photos, or playing games via Apple Arcade. It would even be possible to also call friends or family while gaming, without noticing this from the performance. According to Apple, the processor is 85% faster than its predecessor in editing photos and videos via Lightroom or iMovie. The interaction possibilities between the new iMac and iPhones further improved, after it was already possible to run iPhone apps on the Mac that was released last year.

With the new iMac, Apple is also releasing three new Magic keyboards, including dedicated keys for emoji, Spotlight and Do Not Disturb functions, as well as Touch ID, which should make it even easier to checkout online orders or store your iMac. to unlock.

The new iMac is available in different versions. Starting from 1,449 euros. This version has an 8-core CPU, a 7-core GPU, 8 GB of central memory and two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. A 24-inch 4.5K Retina display is incorporated in the device. This version comes with a Magic Keyboard and is available in the colors blue, green, pink and silver.

For 1669 euros you have a slightly better version of the new iMac. In addition to the Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports, this version has two USB 3 ports and an 8-core GPU instead of a 7-core GPU. In addition, this version comes with a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and a Gigabit Ethernet option. In terms of colors, you can choose blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange and purple.

The most expensive version of the new iMac costs 1,899 euros. This version has, just like the 1699 euro variant, an 8-core GPU and CPU. The only difference is in the internal storage. That is 512 GP, compared to the 256 GB of the two cheaper versions. This version is also available in eight colors.

The screen is identical for all three versions.

You can pre-order the new iMacs starting April 30. The new iMac should then be available in the second half of May.
