The successor to the 2016 iPhone SE was announced today by Apple. The budget-friendly smartphone is given the name iPhone SE 2020 and can be ordered from the end of April.
The iPhone SE 2020 retains the broadly familiar look of its predecessor, with a modest 4.7-inch screen size with no screen notch and round button with fingerprint scanner under the screen. Small difference is that the round metal edges around the iPhone are more like the iPhone Xr and iPhone 11, but especially the iPhone 8. Because the LCD screen is slightly larger than the iPhone SE, the 2020 version is slightly larger: 13 .8 x 6.7 x 0.7 centimeters. The resolution has also been slightly increased to a 720p resolution (HD).
Another difference is that the iPhone 2020 now also has an IP67 certification, which makes it water resistant.
Specs update
Of course, Apple has introduced more innovation than just the case. For example, the iPhone SE 2020 has the particularly powerful Apple A13 Bionic chipset, which is also included in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. In terms of storage, you can choose from three flavors: 64, 128 or 256GB.
At the back is a single 12 megapixel lens, no dualcam or triple lens like the most expensive iPhone versions. However, you do have a portrait mode and zoom functionality up to 5x, although the zooming is done digitally.

Also new is that the iPhone SE 2020 supports eSim, in addition to the regular SIM card slot. With which this iPhone also offers dualsim support. You can also charge the iPhone SE 2020 wirelessly. Wired charging is still done via the outdated Lightning connection, Apple is not making the switch to USB-C for the iPhone (for the time being). However, the audio connection has disappeared, so that music listeners have to switch to a dongle or wireless headset.

The iPhone SE 2020 appears in three different colors: red, white and black. The model with 64GB of storage gets a price tag of 489 euros. The versions with 128 and 256GB cost 539 and 659 euros respectively.
On April 17, the iPhone SE 2020 can be pre-ordered from 14:00. The new iPhone should be available in stores from Friday 24 April.
