Apple comes with HomePod mini 2: this is the expected release

There is a new generation of the HomePod mini! Apple released the first (and only) version of the HomePod mini in 2020. That was more than four years ago, and since then the speaker has received regular minor updates. The small speaker has been able to record the temperature and humidity in a room since 2023. Furthermore, Apple has made few changes over the past four years, but that will change with the release of the HomePod mini 2.

According to the usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman, Apple will release a new version of the HomePod mini in 2025. The smaller version of the HomePod is equipped with a new processor, manufactured by Apple itself. With this processor, the HomePod mini 2 will support WiFi 6E. That is a big improvement, because the current HomePod mini still works with WiFi 4.

Release from the speaker

We still have to wait a while for the HomePod mini 2, because the release is not expected until the autumn. Gurman predicts that the small speaker will appear in late 2025. That means that the second generation of the HomePod mini will probably only arrive October or November 2025 is announced. The Apple TV 2025, MacBook Pro 2025 and iPad Pro 2025 will be released around the same period.

While Apple organizes an event every year in September, this is not the case for October. For example, the MacBook Pro, iPad mini and iMac were announced via press releases at the end of 2024. Apple may opt for a special event in October in 2025, because there are now products planned that have not been upgraded for years. The current generation of the Apple TV dates from 2022, for the HomePod this is even earlier. The release of the HomePod mini 2 may therefore be announced during an Apple event in October.

Not much is known yet about the functions of the HomePod mini 2. In any case, it is expected that the new generation of the HomePod mini will have a new S chip, in the current version we still see an S5 chip. It now needs to be replaced; Apple may choose the S9 or S10 chip for the HomePod mini 2. In addition, the audio quality of the small speaker is reportedly improved.

Other possible changes include new colors and the U2 chip. With the HomePod mini you can now choose from the colors blue, yellow, midnight, orange and white. It is expected that Apple will once again opt for a series of striking colors for the HomePod mini 2. The starting price will probably remain the same, you will then get the speaker first 109 euros in the house.
