Apple has an iPhone 16 mini after all – but not the way you think

Apple didn’t officially release an iPhone 16 mini this year, but in a way, it did. Here’s what you need to know.

The last official iPhone mini that Apple released was the iPhone 13 mini. That dates back to 2021. Since then, there has been a Plus version and there have always been four iPhone models available in two sizes. Until now.

There are now four iPhone 16 models in four different sizes. The largest is the iPhone 16 Pro Max at a whopping 6.9 inches, followed by the iPhone 16 Plus at 6.7 inches. The iPhone 16 Pro has a size of 6.3 inches. So compared to the rest, you could also call the regular iPhone 16 of 6.1 inches the iPhone 16 mini!

iPhone 13 mini vs iPhone 16 (mini)

The iPhone 13 mini is of course smaller than the iPhone 16 (mini): 5.4 inches vs 6.1 inches, a difference of 0.7 inches (about 1.8 cm). In terms of weight, it differs 29 grams (141 g vs 170 g). However, the screen of the iPhone 16 is not only larger, but also brighter (max. 2000 nits vs max 1200 nits) and has a higher resolution (1179 x 2556 pixels vs 1080 x 2340 pixels).

The iPhone 16 of course has many more improvements compared to the iPhone 13 mini. For example, the mini has an A15 Bionic chip and the 16 is equipped with an A18 chip. That means a lot more speed. In addition, the mini has a 12 megapixel camera and with the 16 you get a 48 megapixel camera and the new camera controller. The iPhone 16 is also future-proof thanks to support for Apple Intelligence.

Of course, you will also see these differences in the price, although the difference is actually not that big. This is probably because the iPhone 13 mini is the last official mini that you can still buy. The iPhone 13 mini can now be purchased for €771.68. The new iPhone 16 (mini) can be purchased from €969.
