The extremely expensive Vision Pro will be released next year, but according to rumors, Apple does not plan to release a cheaper variant. You need to know this.
Apple’s first spatial computer
Apple finally announced the Vision Pro in June. This is Apple’s first new device since the introduction of the Apple Watch in 2014. The company’s first mixed reality headset is incredibly advanced and runs on the new visionOS. This new OS version was specially developed for the headset and features modified versions of apps such as FaceTime and Photos.

The Apple Vision Pro will be released next year and will be available for purchase at a price of no less than $3,499. It is not yet known how much this will be in the Netherlands, but it is clear that these are not glasses for the general public. According to the company, the Apple Vision Pro is mainly intended for companies. That is why Apple was working on a cheaper Vision Pro, but that plan now seems to have been scrapped.

End of the cheaper Apple Vision Pro?
According to rumors, Apple was already working behind the scenes on a cheaper version of the Vision Pro, which would be less advanced. The most expensive parts of the Vision Pro are probably the processors, the screens and the cameras. Apple reportedly wanted to save on at least one of these components to lower the price of the glasses. For example, the cheaper Vision Pro can have lower quality screens or a slightly less advanced chip.
This would result in a much lower price for the Vision Pro, so that the spatial computer would also be affordable for the general public. The Vision Lite, as the cheaper variant was also called, would then be released in 2025. According to new rumors, it is unfortunately not feasible for Apple to lower the price enough for an affordable version of the glasses. This probably has to do with the expensive and advanced parts of the Vision Pro.

Vision Pro will be released in 2024
It is therefore uncertain whether Apple will come up with a cheaper version of the Vision Pro. Apple’s first spatial computer will be released next year, probably in early 2024. Apple reportedly does not expect the Vision Pro to sell much, which is undoubtedly due to the high price. The company expects to sell between 400,000 and 600,000 units worldwide by 2024.

According to the usually reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a new generation of the Vision Pro will not be available until 2027. It is quite possible that the second version of the spatial computer will be cheaper, just as we saw this year with the Apple Watch Ultra 2. In any case, we will have to wait a while for an affordable version of the glasses, because 2027 was according to Kuo already on the early side.
