Apple presented the new Mac Studio 2023 during the event on June 5. Here’s what you need to know about the new version of this powerful Mac.
Release new Mac Studio
The Mac Studio is a desktop Mac that you can think of more or less as a more powerful Mac mini or a more affordable Mac Pro. With this Mac, Apple focuses on design, music and photo studios, which also explains the name of the desktop. The first version of the Mac Studio appeared in March 2022. Now it’s time for the new Mac Studio 2023.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently tweeted that a new Mac Studio was coming. According to him, Apple was testing a Mac that carries the code ‘J475’. Since the current Mac Studio has the code ‘J375’, it was likely that this was a new Mac Studio. This is during Apple event confirmed on June 5.
A fast M2 Ultra chip
The current Mac Studio is quite fast and has an M1 Max or Ultra chip. The new Mac Studio 2023, which has just been presented, is a lot faster with an M2 Max or M2 Ultra chip. The M2 Max can also be found in the MacBook Pro 14 and 16-inch. The M2 Ultra is new and doubles the performance of the M2 Max.
The Mac Studio with M2 Ultra supports up to six Pro Display XDRs with over 100 million pixels. In addition, there is Wifi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support. On the back, the Mac Studio has four Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 10Gb Ethernet port, an improved HDMI port, and two USB-A ports. At the front there are two more USB-C ports and a slot for SD cards.
The faster M2 Max and M2 Ultra chip is the only real change from the first version of the Mac Studio. The new Mac Studio 2023 is available from around 2429 euros. If you want extra options, you quickly go towards the 4000.
Mac Pro Apple Silicon with M2 Ultra
Apple also has a new MacPro, in which two M2 Max chips are combined into a CPU with 24 cores. According to Apple, this would make the chip twenty percent faster than the current M1 Ultra.
The Mac Pro has two HDMI connectors, three USB-A ports, and eight Thunderbolt 4 ports, supporting up to six Pro Display XDR monitors. The Mac Pro also has support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4.
The new Mac Pro is available as a tower or rack case. You can order both the Mac Studio 2023 and the Mac Pro 2023 starting today or buy it starting June 13. The Mac Pro 2023 in tower housing is available from € 8399, in rack housing from € 9099.
