The new year has started and we can expect a lot from Apple in 2022: according to Gurman, the iPhone 14 and MacBook Air with M2 chip will really arrive this year.
Apple in 2022: iPhone 14 and MacBook Air with M2
That we can expect a lot from Apple in 2022 is one thing for sure. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also discusses the various products we can expect from Apple in 2022 in his most recent newsletter. These include the iPhone 14 and MacBook Air with M2 chip.
iPhone 14 with punch-hole design
According to Gurman, Apple will release the iPhone 14 with a punch-hole design in 2022. This is a design where the camera is hidden behind a hole in the screen. Many Android devices already have such a camera hole in the display. Ming-Chi Kuo has also brought this rumor out before.
Both the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max are expected to have the updated design. The notch that has been used since the iPhone X will disappear on the high-end iPhones. This creates more space for the display. Face ID will remain, but will likely be processed below the screen.
Incidentally, there are also rumors that Apple will release the new iPhones without a physical SIM card slot. Instead, customers must use the internet, make calls and send text messages using an electronic SIM card (esim). You activate this digitally. You can read more about this in the article below.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the flagship of 2022 would also be equipped with a 48-megapixel camera. Now the iPhone still has to make do with a sensor of 12 megapixels.

Release iPhone 14
It seems almost certain that the iPhone 14 will be released this year. The release of the iPhone 14 will probably be around September or October. The iPhone 13 was presented in September 2021 and the iPhone 12 in October 2020.
You will probably soon be able to choose from an iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. We have to disappoint fans of the iPhone 13 mini: there will not be an iPhone 14 mini.
MacBook Air with M2 chip
Gurman also discusses the new MacBook Air with M2 chip. According to Gurman, the M2 chip is faster than the current M1 chip, but the speed gain is ‘marginal’. According to Gurman, the new M2 will have an 8-core CPU and a 9-core or 10-core GPU. The current MacBook Air has a graphics chip (GPU) with 7 or 8 cores. This makes the M2 seem less powerful than the M1 Pro and M1 Max, which are intended for more professional hardware.
Whether the MacBook Air has a notch like the MacBook Pro 2021 is still uncertain. However, the Air has to do without the ProMotion screen with 120 Hz. There is also still only one type of connection: USB-C. The HDMI port and SD card reader are therefore missing.

Release MacBook Air M2
When the new MacBook Air with M2 chip is going to be released, coffee grounds will remain to be seen for a while. Apple usually unveils its new Macs in October, so we expect the launch to be around that month as well.
