‘Apple is going to discontinue the Vision Pro’ – this is what’s going on

The Apple Vision Pro is not even available in the Netherlands yet, but Apple is reportedly already stopping production of the device. This is what’s going on.

Apple discontinues Vision Pro

The Apple Vision Pro appeared in American stores at the beginning of this year and has also been available in Europe since this summer. The spatial computer is extremely advanced, with two 4K micro-LED screens, twelve cameras and the M2 chip. This is also reflected in the price, because you pay no less than € 4,699 for the Vision Pro. A huge amount, which makes it not a headset for the general public.

This is also reflected in the production figures of the Apple Vision Pro. Apple plans to produce 600,000 models of the spatial computer worldwide. More versions are not necessary, because the demand for the headset is not high enough. According to rumors, Apple has almost reached this number, causing the company to slowly scale down production of the glasses.

Vision Pro 2 is coming

Where Apple previously produced two thousand models of the Vision Pro per day, that number is now down to a thousand. That number will probably be adjusted downwards again in November. Production will reportedly come to a complete standstill from May onwards. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this has to do with the next generation of the Vision Pro, which is expected in 2025. Apple then provides the device with the new M5 chip.

It is not known what other changes Apple will implement with the new generation of the Vision Pro, but in any case the glasses will have support for Apple Intelligence. According to rumors, Apple is also working on a cheaper version of the spatial computer. This is becoming less advanced to keep the price down. For example, the device probably has fewer cameras and displays of lower quality. The expected price of the device is around 2000 euros.

No release in the Netherlands yet

The cheaper version of the Apple Vision Pro will reportedly be released next year, just like the new generation of the current model. Apple announced the spatial computer at WWDC 2023, so there’s a good chance we’ll see the new iterations around the same time. This means that the next generation and a cheaper version of the Vision Pro may be available in June 2025.

It is not yet known when Apple will officially release the Vision Pro in the Netherlands. The glasses are already available in European countries such as Germany and France, but are not yet available in the Netherlands and Belgium. That will probably take a while, but there is little chance that the device will appear in Dutch stores this year. Want to know more about Apple’s first spatial computer?
