Apple is working on AirPods 4, which are rumored to be released next week. These features are coming to the new earbuds!
Apple launches AirPods 4
The biggest Apple event of 2024 is coming! On monday september 9th Apple presents the new iPhones, Apple Watches and iPads of the year. That’s not all, because new AirPods are also announced. The fourth generation of the ‘normal’ AirPods are expected next week. That’s about time, because the AirPods 3 were released in 2021.
Apple is rumored to release the AirPods 4 in two models. One version will be less advanced, but cheaper. The other option will have more features and will be a bit more expensive. In this way, the cheaper AirPods 4 will replace the second generation AirPods, which are still available from Apple. The more expensive version of the fourth generation AirPods is actually considered a replacement for the AirPods 3. This is what we already know about the new earbuds!
AirPods 4
New design
Apple is likely to introduce a new design for the AirPods 4. According to the usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman, the earbuds will get a design that is a combination of the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro. The earbuds will get short stems, but no silicone attachments. This way, the AirPods should fit comfortably for everyone, because many users find the attachments less pleasant.
Noise reduction
The higher-end AirPods 4 will reportedly get noise cancellation. This feature was previously exclusive to the AirPods Pro, but is now also coming to the regular earbuds. The fourth-generation AirPods are expected to feature active noise cancellation and a transparency mode. Features such as adaptive audio will remain exclusive to the AirPods Pro 2.
Improved charging case
Apple is making some improvements to the AirPods 4 charging case. The case will likely support MagSafe, allowing you to charge the earphones wirelessly. Wired charging will also be different, as the case will get a USB-C connection. With the AirPods 2 and 3, this is still the Lightning port. So you will soon only need one cable to charge your AirPods, iPhone, MacBook and iPad.
The more expensive AirPods 4 also get better support for ‘Find My’. Apple integrates improved speakers into the charging case of the earbuds, as was previously done with the AirPods Pro 2. This allows the case to play a louder sound via the ‘Find My’ app. In this way, Apple makes it easier to find the earbuds again if you lose them.
Sound quality
Furthermore, rumors predict that Apple will improve the sound quality of the AirPods 4. For example, audio sounds clearer compared to the AirPods 3 and AirPods 2. Features such as call detection, voice isolation and head gestures via Siri may also come to the earbuds. That chance is still small, because it seems that Apple wants to keep these features exclusive to the AirPods Pro 2.
AirPods 4 Prices
Apple is likely to adopt the pricing of the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 for the new earbuds. The cheaper version of the AirPods 4 will replace the AirPods 2, which you can currently buy from Apple for 149 euros. Apple sells the AirPods 3 for 209 euros, so it is quite possible that the advanced version of the AirPods 4 will get the same price. The AirPods 2 and 3 will disappear from Apple’s range next week.
Release
We don’t have to wait much longer for the AirPods 4, because the earbuds will be released next week. On September 9th at 7pm (Dutch time) Apple announces the earbuds. Sales are expected to start that same evening or the day after. The AirPods 4 will then be delivered to your home later that week or the week after. Want to know more about the Apple event of 2024?
