Apple launches iOS 18.3: This is and not (directly) to your iPhone

Apple has released iOS 18.3, with improvements, bug fixes, security updates and new functions. This changes on your iPhone!

Apple releases iOS 18.3

Just update! You can install iOS 18.3 directly on your iPhone. It is not a big update, but there are still some nice functions. Unfortunately we cannot (yet) use many of those functions, because they have to deal with Apple Intelligence. We have to wait for this until April. We will nevertheless list the new functions for you:

Calculator gets function back

At the calculator, a function had been removed that Apple added in iOS 18.3 again. You can now always tap the IS sign (=) to repeat calculations. For example, type 2 x 2 and press the IS sign, you will get the answer (4). If you then press the IS sign again, the answer 8 appears. The calculation (X2) is therefore performed again.

Visual intelligence has improved

With visual intelligence you can focus the camera on a subject and your iPhone then gives more information about it. There are some nice functions in iOS 18.3. You can now focus the camera on a poster of an event and the date is then automatically put in your calendar. In addition, the function can now also identify plants and animals. The function is only available on the iPhone 16 models with Apple Intelligence.

Summarize automatic notifications

In iOS 18.3 the function to automatically make summaries of notifications are available again. The position was temporarily plotted because sometimes wrong heads were generated for news services such as BBC News and the New York Times. Now the function is available again, but unfortunately only on iPhones with support for Apple Intelligence.

Other updates Apple has put in iOS 18.3

Apple has also solved some minor problems with Siri and Apple Music:

  • When typing a Siri assignment, the keyboard sometimes disappeared. That is now resolved;
  • The music of Apple Music sometimes continued to play, even when you closed the app. That too is now resolved.

Apple has also added support for robot vacuum cleaners to the Home-App, but this function is not yet available. This will probably only be in iOS 18.4. It is probably also possible to record with a stereom microphone, a live camera overlay with the help of the image-in-image user interface and HDR support.
