We have written more often in the past that Apple will come with a foldable iPhone ‘Fold’ in two years, but now it seems to be really true.
Apple is working on foldable iPhone ‘Fold’
Several sources agree that the first foldable iPhone from Apple has a 7.8-inch display on the inside and a 5.5-inch display on the outside. A number of these sources are the analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff PU, and the Weibo account ‘Digital Chat Station’. The fact that there is now agreement on these screen sizes and that they have been leaked indicates that these specifications of the device are probably final.
According to Kuo, the foldable iPhone ‘Fold’ opens like a book and therefore not like the Galaxy Z Flip from Samsung. PU and Kuo both think that the foldable iPhone will be in mass production in the fourth quarter of 2026, which means that the device could already be on the market in limited quantities next year. A release somewhere in 2027 seems more likely.
Other specifications
In addition to the 7.8-inch display on the inside and the 5.5-inch display on the outside, according to Kuo, the foldable iPhone will have two cameras on the back. He also expects one camera on the front, a Touch Idan/Off button instead of Face ID and a battery with a high density.
KUO also expects the device to be 4.5 mm thin if it is folded out and about 9 to 9.5 mm when it is folded. He also said that the device will have a titanium outside, but that the hinge probably consists of a mix of titanium and stainless steel.
We recently wrote that the first foldable iPhone ‘Fold’ will probably cost more than 2000 dollars. That would mean that it becomes almost twice as expensive as the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Whether that will indeed be the case, therefore for another two years remains to be seen.
