Apple has released iOS 17.7.2, iOS 18.1.1 and iPadOS 18.1.1! These are important updates that you should install as soon as possible. This is why.
iOS 17.7.2 and iOS 18.1.1
Apple has released a series of updates! New software versions are available for both the iPhone and the iPad. This concerns iOS 17.7.2, iOS 18.1.1, iPadOS 17.7.2 and iPadOS 18.1.1. The updates don’t bring any new features to your iPhone or iPad, instead Apple fixes major security issues. It is therefore wise to install the updates as soon as possible so that the security of the device is back in order.
There is a good chance that you have already updated to iOS 18, but a number of iPhones still run on iOS 17. Apple has released iOS 17.7.2 for those devices, to also keep the security of older models up to date. Have you updated to iOS 18 yet? Then you can now install iOS 18.1.1. The same applies to the iPad, the tablets that still run on iPadOS 17 can update to iPadOS 17.7.2. iPadOS 18.1.1 is now available for all iPads with (support for) iPadOS 18.

Major security issues
According to Apple, these are important issues in JavaScriptCore and Webkit. Both JavaScript and Webkit contained a software flaw that allowed malicious parties to execute commands on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. In that case, with a specially created website, tasks can be performed on your device without you wanting to do so. This issue is resolved with iOS 17.7.2, iOS 18.1.1, iPadOS 17.7.2, and iPadOS 18.1.1.
The same problem occurred in WebKit, but the software flaw also allowed attackers to steal login credentials or other sensitive information. The same problem has been discovered with macOS, for which Apple has now released an interim macOS update. It is therefore wise to install iOS 17.7.2, iOS 18.1.1, iPadOS 17.7.2, iPadOS 18.1.1 and macOS 15.1.1 as soon as possible, so that your data is safe again.

No new features in iOS 18.1.1
Apple has indicated that the problem may have been exploited on Macs running on an Intel chip. This is not yet the case with the iPhone and iPad. Now that the company has announced the software bug, it is even more important to quickly update to iOS 17.7.2, iOS 18.1.1, iPadOS 17.7.2 and iPadOS 18.1.1, as the problem is now public knowledge. You will find the updates under ‘Settings > General > Software update’.
With iOS 17.7.2, iOS 18.1.1 and iPadOS 18.1.1, no new features will come to your iPhone or iPad, so we have to wait for the next update. Apple is expected to release iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 in early December. Then the AirTag will get a new feature and Apple will make changes to the Photos app. Are you curious about what changes will come to your iPhone and iPad? Then read all about the next updates here!
