Apple has unveiled macOS 26 Tahoe! The software comes with a new look and introduces a series of functions on the Mac (book). These are them!
MacOS 26 Tahoe
Apple MacOS 26 presented at the WWDC 2025! The new operating system for the Mac (book) has a completely new design, which is inspired by Visionos. In the new design we see many more transparent frameworks and glass elements. That’s not all, because all applications have a new symbol. Apple has given the operating system for the Mac (book) a new look.
That is not the only change, because the company adjusts the numbering of macOS this year. Where Apple released macOS 15 in 2024, MacOS 16 is now skipped. Instead, the company opts for macOS 26, where the number refers to the year in which the software is mainly used. With software versions such as iOS 26, iPados 26 and Watchos 26, Apple has used the same numbering.
With new generations of macOS, the company usually refers to a nature reserve in California and that is no different this year. At MacOS 26, Apple has opted for Tahoe, a freshwater lake in the United States. This name is of course no coincidence, because the lake is known for its clear reflection through the clear water. New functions and app
At MacOS 26 Tahoe, Apple has added a series of new functions. The telephone app is available for the first time on the Mac (book) and the control panel has been expanded. For example, with MacOS 26 Tahoe yourself, you decide which controllers you add and where you place it. This was already possible on the iPhone and iPad, but can now also be in macOS.
Spotlight has become much smarter in the latest software version, which means that the function functions as a kind of menu bar in every program. With MacOS 26 Tahoe, for example, you can prepare an email to a contact person in the Mail app, while you can have a note made in the notes app. Which actions you can perform via Spotlight differs per program, so that you no longer have to search for features in the application or software itself.
Do you regularly play games on your Mac (book)? In that case you get a handy application with MacOS 26 Tahoe, because Apple introduces a special Games app. This app is – as the name suggests – intended for playing games. In the application you can purchase games, search for purchased games and play with other users. Apple Arcade is also available in the Games app, which must replace Game Center.
Release of MacOS 26 Tahoe
Are you enthusiastic about macOS 26 Tahoe? You can soon install the first test version on your Mac (book). The final version of the update appears in September, then all users can get started with the new functions and the renewed design. Apple usually releases the largest software updates of the year on the second Tuesday of September, which is in 2025 Tuesday 9 September.
Unfortunately, not all Mac (book) S have support for the latest software version. The MacBook Pro from 2018 and the MacBook Air from 2020 do not work with macOS 26 Tahoe, which get stuck on macOS Sequoia (15). Do you want to update to the next software version?
