Apple stops Dynamic Island (with this new iPhone)

Apple introduced the Dynamic Island in 2022, but says goodbye to the feature faster than expected. With this iPhone it disappears Dynamic Island!

Apple introduces Dynamic Island

It is not so long since Apple introduced the Dynamic Island. With the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max we saw the feature for the first time, those devices appeared in 2022. Then both the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 16 series took over the Dynamic Island. It is expected that the Dynamic Island will also return to the iPhone 17, but this may be one of the last devices with the black bar.

It has been known for some time that Apple is working on a way to hide the camera and Face ID sensor under the screen. These are now still hidden in the Dynamic Island, but ultimately no longer have to be visible on the display. According to new rumors, we can expect this change with the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max for the first time. These are reportedly the first iPhones without notch or dynamic island.

iPhone 18 Pro (Max)

With the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple will probably say goodbye to the Dynamic Island. Instead, the devices get a small black notch in the corner of the screen. The front camera is placed there, which does not disappear completely under the screen with the iPhone 18 Pro (Max). That happens at the Face ID sensor, which makes Dynamic Island superfluous with the iPhone 18 Pro (Max).

According to Wayne Ma van The Information the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 18 Pro (Max) is replaced by a small black dot on the screen. We do not find this notch in the same place as the Dynamic Island. According to MA, Apple chooses to place this black dot in the left corner of the display. That would be a big advantage, because you have more room on the rest of the screen.

Small Dynamic Island

The extent to what extent Apple with the iPhone 18 Pro (Max) actually says goodbye to the Dynamic Island continues to wait. Ross Young, expert in the field of displays, claims that these devices do get a Dynamic Island. According to him, the feature is becoming a blow smaller, but does not completely disappear yet. This is in line with earlier statements by Mark Gurman, who also expects Dynamic Island to become more compact.

In any case, it is clear that Apple is slowly working towards the Dynamic Island farewell. The iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max may become the first devices, with the front being almost entirely of the screen. It seems certain that the Dynamic Island with these iPhones is getting smaller, although the question remains how small that is ultimately. Do you not want to miss any announcement from Apple?
