Design: virtually unchanged

The design of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is almost identical to the design of the first generation Apple Watch Ultra. The watch again has a case size of 49 millimeters and the housing is made of titanium. The second generation Apple Watch Ultra once again has a completely flat screen, which is protected by scratch-resistant sapphire glass. The screen is a lot brighter, with no less than 3000 Nits. This means you can easily read the screen even in bright sunlight.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 has been re-released in only one color: a light titanium version. You cannot choose a different color for the most advanced Apple Watch. However, new watch straps will be included with the watch, with which you can still personalize the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Watch runs on fast S9 chip

From the outside, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 looks like the first generation, but the watch has been adjusted on the inside. The smartwatch runs on the new S9 chip. This is based on the A15 Bionic chip that is already familiar from the iPhone 13 and 14. A big step compared to the S8 chip, which was still based on the A13 from the iPhone 11. This makes the Watch up to 60 percent faster than its predecessor.

The smartwatch also gets the new U2 chip. This new chip brings improvements to ‘Find My’. This is the same chip that we also find in the iPhone 15.

Battery life of 72 hours

The fact that the S9 chip is a major update is also reflected in the battery consumption of the watch. The first generation Apple Watch Ultra already had a standard battery life of 36 hours. With the energy saving mode this increased to 60 hours.

This is almost the same with the Apple Watch Ultra 2, where the standard battery life is also 36 hours. With energy saving mode enabled, this will be a lot longer: a maximum of 72 hours. So the battery of the new Ultra lasts much longer, provided you have the energy-saving mode on.

Introducing watchOS 10

A new Apple Watch also comes with a new watchOS. Apple has now unveiled watchOS 10, so we know which new features are coming to the Apple Watch. The new watchOS version introduces smart stacks. This consists of various widgets, which are shown at the right time. This way, your agenda will appear when you are in a meeting and you will see the weather forecast in the morning.

In addition, a number of cool new watch faces are added with watchOS 10. The Apple Watch also gets some health functions, such as workouts such as cycling and walking have been improved.
