A new report has emerged detailing Apple’s 2025 product plans, including features for the Apple Watch Ultra 3.
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 gets these functions
In 2024, we haven’t seen an update at all for the Apple Watch Ultra. According to Bloomberg a new version is expected in 2025. This Apple Watch Ultra 3 will look almost the same as the Apple Watch Ultra 2. But there will also be some new functions.
Satellite connection and 5G RedCap
An earlier rumor already shows that Apple will probably add satellite connection to the smartwatch. The new report contains no further details. It does say that the function is probably comparable to the original SOS emergency notification via satellite. This was introduced with the iPhone 14. It then became possible to send short text messages via satellite to first responders.
The report also claims that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will get 5G RedCap (Reduced Capacity) network access. This is, as it were, a light version of 5G that requires fewer components (such as antennas) and is more energy efficient. This means that 5G RedCap is very suitable for the Apple Watch. It runs on batteries and probably only needs 5G access occasionally.
5G RedCap and satellite connectivity are reportedly exclusive to the Apple Watch Ultra 3. Another feature coming to both the Ultra 3 and the Apple Watch Series 11: high blood pressure detection.
More health features
In addition to high blood pressure detection in the Apple Watch, the report says that heart rate monitoring will be coming to the next generation of AirPods. This will therefore contain other health sensors, which were previously predicted to be for temperature measurement. The results of those sensors are included in a new health app. There may also be an AI-based coaching service that provides health advice.
Finally, a redesign is expected for the AirTags, whose hardware is completely unchanged since their debut in 2021. The report has no further details, but other recent rumors say the main difference in AirTags 2 will be greater range and better location tracking .
This is when the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will appear
It will take a while before the Apple Watch Ultra 3 appears here. All rumors point to this being around the release of the iPhone 17. That means it should happen sometime in September of 2025.
