Apple regularly expands the calculator app with new functions, which you probably don’t know yet. These are two hidden feature from the calculator!
Calculator
To resolve fast or difficult calculations, you no longer need a separate calculator. The iPhone has had the calculator app for years and the iPad has been equipped with the same application since iPados 18. That is not the only Apple device with a calculator, the Apple Watch also has a special calculator app. You probably use this less often, but you do have a number of useful functions. We put two hidden features among each other for each other!
1. Calculate tip
Are you going to eat out regularly? Or is a holiday planned? In that case it is useful to quickly calculate how much tip you want to give. The calculator app on the Apple Watch has a handy function for that. It is possible to set that the calculator immediately shows which amount you can give as a tip. Curious how you do that? Then adjust the following settings to your Apple Watch:
- Open ‘settings’ on the Apple Watch;
- Tap ‘calculator’;
- Select ‘Fooif function’.
Have you enabled the fooif function at the calculator on the Apple Watch? Then go to the calculator app on the smartwatch and enter a number. If you go out for dinner, you can, for example, enter the amount of the account there. Then tap ‘tip’, so that you immediately see how much tip you can give. Do you find the percentage too high or too low? Then use the Digital Crown of the Apple Watch to increase or lower the percentage, the amount is automatically adjusted.
2. Split account
Do you share the bill with a group? Then the calculator app offers a handy feature on the Apple Watch, which calculates the amount of the account per person. To do this, go to the calculator app on the smartwatch again. Enter the amount of the account and tap ‘Tip’. Under the percentage for the tip you can enter the number of people. Tap ‘people’ to adjust the number with the Digital Crown.
When you have set the number of people, the amount per person appears below the total final amount. This way you immediately know how much you have spent per person, which is especially useful if you want to send a payment request later. So you no longer have to grab your iPhone to calculate this. The only drawback of the calculator on the Apple Watch is that you have to include at least one percent tip, this percentage cannot be set to zero.
