As of today, holiday crowds on roads in the Netherlands and abroad

The summer holidays are about to start for many and you can also notice that on the road. Not only abroad, but also here in the Netherlands, crowds are expected from today due to holiday traffic.

It will be busy on the road on Friday afternoon, the ANWB expects. The schools in the Central region are closing their doors, which will lead to departing holiday traffic. Most delays are expected on the roads south of Rotterdam, in North Brabant, towards the Veluwe and on the A2/A27 from Utrecht to the south. An additional obstacle for holidaymakers on their way to Zeeland and the Belgian border is the closure of the Haringvliet bridge in the A29. As a result, long traffic jams are expected on the N57 and the A16 early on Friday afternoon. In the direction of Friesland, the Afsluitdijk in the A7 is the biggest bottleneck, because work is being carried out on the locks there.

Many holidaymakers are also on their way abroad this weekend. Long traffic jams are expected on European roads to the south on Saturday. In France, driving will be slow on the A7, the Autoroute du Soleil and on the A9 from Orange to the Spanish border, according to the ANWB. Traffic in Germany and Austria must also take delays into account. This is also the case for travelers to Italy, on the A13/A22 Brenner Pass – Verona and in Switzerland on the A2, the route via the Gotthard tunnel.
