With five cylinder!
If you look at this Audi 100, you immediately see how much the current Audi differs from the Audi of the eighties and nineties. If the more subdued character of the time appeals to you and if you have a soft spot for five-cylinder engines, then this may be a car that will make your mouth water.
Last year we already took a look at an Audi 80 from the AutoWeek used range and now we have its bigger brother. The two have the necessary similarities and both stem from a time when Audis had a certain modesty about them. As a result, you immediately see that this 100 is now really an Audi of a respectable age, but at the same time this 100 has a fairly timeless appearance due to its lack of frills. Especially in silver grey, a still popular ‘colour’. The orange glazing of the turn signals and the non-painted parts in the bumpers clearly testify to a different era.
That also applies to the engine in this copy, which is a five-cylinder. It cleared the field with the successor A6 after the first generation (essentially a facelifted version of the last 100). Of course you can still get a five-cylinder from Audi nowadays, but with a certain melancholy we think back to the time when it was still in a thick luxury sedan. However, the block was quite far forward, an ailment that more Audis suffered from, so the enjoyment had to come more from the sound than from the car’s handling. But hey, you didn’t necessarily buy a 100 to go hard around the bend. This 100 probably didn’t do that much at all. He seems to be well cared for, especially for his age. This was probably handled with care. The mileage of only 146,311 km is also an indication of a quiet existence.
When ordering in 1991, you paid extra for air conditioning, so you can thank the first owner retroactively for that. Furthermore, it is relatively sober in the 100. Electrically operated windows? Forget it. A skylight? No. Some color in the upholstery? Neither, it is a stark contrast to the visual stimuli that you get served in an A6 these days. Who knows, you might find that really charming. In that case you can already set aside a nice sum of money, because the asking price is €6,750. That is sturdy, although it also has the appearance of being a really neat copy. Do you want to investigate it yourself: it is in Gieten, Drenthe, near Assen.
