503 horsepower and 973 Nm of torque in boost mode
Audi e-tron S
The Audi e-tron S continues where the e-tron ends: with not two but three electric motors. In boost mode, the sporty model of the SUV or Sportback has so much power that a 0-100 km / h sprint becomes a reality in 4.5 seconds.
Audi announces the e-tron S and the e-tron S Sportback. These are performance versions of the regular SUV and coupé-like sedan. Audi has taken the large electric motor (150 kW) from the e-tron 55 and mounted it in the e-tron S not at the rear but at the front axle. At the rear are two smaller e-engines that drive the wheels with a combined capacity of 267 hp (or 359 in boost mode). If there is not enough grip or if the driver simply wants more power, the front electric motor comes into action.
This construction makes electrical torque vectoring possible. This distributes the driving forces fully variable and ‘on demand’ to the two wheels on the rear axle. With sporty cornering up to 220 Nm extra torque is available for the outer wheel. Better and more dynamic steering characteristics, self-steering characteristics and higher cornering speeds – that is all possible with that.
Braking is done with an electro-hydraulic ‘by-wire’ system. This determines whether the electric brakes can only be braked or whether the wheel brakes must also be used. Usually the first one will suffice. Up to 270 kW of kinetic energy can be recovered. In the e-tron S you can choose from seven driving modes, with the standard adaptive air suspension varying the body height to 76 mm in height.
Performance
The Audi e-tron S has a low resistance coefficient. The low battery pack can deliver a maximum of 430 kW peak power. The system power is, in boost mode, at a converted 503 hp, the torque even at a monstrous 973 Nm. Including Quattro four-wheel drive and the e-torque vectoring you can sit at 100 km / h from a standstill within 4.5 seconds. The top speed is limited to 210 km / h.
It is expected that you can order the Audi e-tron S and e-tron S Sportback from May. Then we will report the prices and equipment. The sporty models will arrive at the Audi dealers at the end of this summer.
