Audi increases development budget for the next five years

Audi receives a considerable development budget from the Volkswagen Group. Until 2025, Audi will invest € 35 billion, with the lion’s share going to ‘future technologies’.

The € 35 billion for Audi comes from the investment amount of € 150 billion previously announced by the Volkswagen Group. Of the € 35 billion, € 17 billion, about half of the total sum, will go to future technologies. Audi is also pumping € 15 billion into the development of electric powertrains: € 10 billion is intended for EVs, € 5 billion for hybrids. By 2025, Audi wants to expand its portfolio of electric models to 30 units, of which 20 must be fully electric. Then € 3 billion will remain on the bow, but it remains uncertain what the brand will do with it. Presumably it has something to do with the Audi Transformation Plan, with which the brand wants to optimize certain processes in order to reduce fixed costs.

It has been known for some time that Audi plays a leading role within the Volkswagen Group when it comes to R&D. Audi does not develop everything itself, but the R&D departments of the various brands within the group do operate under the leadership of Audi. Audi itself is currently working on a project called ‘Artemis’. This should eventually become a ‘blueprint for the future development of cars within the entire Volkswagen Group’. What follows from that? Earlier, the brand with the four rings already spoke of a ‘highly efficient electric car’, which should be on the market in 2024. In addition, they are working on the development of a new electric flagship in which all acquired knowledge is processed. It could possibly be on the market earlier. The project therefore does not yet concern the e-tron GT, which will soon be in the showroom.
