Apple blocks the coolest feature of the AirPods Pro 3 in the Netherlands and the rest of the Europe Union. But why do they do that?

Apple had announced something very beautiful during the keynote of the iPhone 17. The AirPods Pro 3 get a great function with which you can translate live. With this you can have conversations with someone you don’t speak of the language. Speak sentences are then automatically picked up by your AirPods and converted into understandable language for you. An ideal function when you are on vacation!

But unfortunately, this function is not available for Apple users in the European Union. Apple says that you cannot use the function if you are in the EU and the country or region of your iPhone is set to a country from the EU. That means that you cannot use the function in the Netherlands and Belgium either.

This is why Apple blocks the translation function in the EU

Apple says this does this due to laws and regulations in the EU, such as the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and different rules for AI. They want to be sure that privacy, permission and data processing are all in order before they roll out the function throughout the EU.

We are almost certain that the best feature of the AirPods Pro 3 will eventually become available in the Netherlands and Belgium. It is only a bit of a wait when this will happen. Can’t you wait? Then you can probably use the function immediately. But then you have to set the language and region of your iPhone to American.

It is of course a pity that not all functions will immediately become available at the AirPods Pro 3. But that does not mean that the AirPods Pro 3 are great ears. Especially the improvements in noise reduction (noise canceling) and the built-in heart rate monitor make it a worthy successor to the AirPods Pro 2.
