According to the EU, the amount of radiation that this iPhone emits is too high for the European standard, which may cause health risks.
This popular iPhone gives too much radiation
The iPhone we are talking about here is the iPhone 12. In 2023 the excess radiation was already demonstrated in France. Apple released an update for this at the time. However, that update only works in France. The European Commission has last September 1 decided That that update has to work throughout the European Union.
Apple respects the European Commission’s decision and will now roll out the update in question for the entire EU. The radiation level will therefore be reduced after the update with all European users of the iPhone 12. Apple, however, states that the iPhone 12 has always been safe to use and also that the company does not agree with the test method used.

Specific Absorption Rate
The Agence Nationale des Fréquences (ANFR) carried out the tests at the time that indicate that the iPhone 12 has a too high specific absorption rate (SAR). The SAR is a benchmark for the amount of radiation from a device that is absorbed by a body. In the case of the iPhone 12, that would be 5.6 W/kg, which is higher than the European standard of 4 W/kg. The National Inspectorate Digital Infrastructure confirms that finding, but at the same time also indicates that that value does not cause health risks.
When iPhone 12 users in the European Union can expect the Apple update, it is not yet clear. It will probably appear somewhere in the coming weeks. We expect Apple to release the latest version of the mobile operating system (iOS 26) for the general public on Monday 15 September. It is possible that the update is incorporated in it, but that remains to be seen.
