Not only Facebook is inspired by Snapchat with its apps Instagram and WhatsApp. Medium also comes with a new feature similar to Snapchat’s Stories feature.
Medium Series
Blog service Medium was always of the simple format. A story consisted of one page with a lot of white space and large images. The platform moves with the times and is now launching a feature to present stories differently: Medium Series. According to Medium it is a new way of telling stories. Instead of posting a story all at once, writers can choose to turn it into a series.
“Telling stories is still done in old-fashioned form,” Medium says in a video. “Every story is stuck between a beginning and an end, but what if the story didn’t have to end? It would not only change the writing of stories, but also how we read them. ” Medium says Series should replace ‘the end’ with ‘to be continued’.
Complement stories
In a blog post, Medium writes that the company has recently started looking for new ways of storytelling on a smaller screen. Series would be a new way of presenting stories that develop and deepen over a longer period of time. “Many online articles need to stand on their own, but Series changes that: you can go deeper, develop more complex ideas and tell continuous stories. That is not possible in one message. ”
Presenting such stories on your phone is nothing new. Snapchat started with Stories, but Instagram and WhatsApp now also have similar options. Unlike those services, however, stories on Medium will continue to be available after 24 hours.

Readers can choose to be notified when a writer adds a new part to their story. If you stop reading in a story, you can easily pick up where you left off the next time. To take advantage of the new Series feature, make sure you have the latest version of Medium installed on iOS.
