There are many gems in the used car range on AutoWeek.nl. That is why we are creating ‘Lieffan wanted’, a new section in which we put a nice classic or youngtimer for sale in the spotlight. We kick off with this wonderfully modest BMW 316.
The BMW 3-series E36 is typically such a car that you feel was represented in large numbers on the Dutch roads not so long ago, but is now becoming fairly rare. This certainly applies to copies on which no one has unleashed his or her own ‘creativity’. This 316 from 1994 is one of those. This one has skilfully steered clear of things like aftermarket wheels, bad eyes, a fat exhaust and ‘tribal stickers’. It still looks the same as it ever rolled out of the showroom, only of course with a little more life experience. That is also not too bad, because with just under 84,000 km on the clock you can say that it has been driven very little in its 27-year existence.
A good explanation for all this is that it is a 316, the mildest E36 there was, which also has an automatic transmission. A combination that has kept him out of the clutches of crack noses. It is also a fairly modestly executed copy. Something tells us that this 3-series, which has only had two owners, has been in the possession of an elderly person for quite some time. We believe the sales pitch ‘it belonged to an old lady’ in this case. According to the company that offers the 316, the car was bought new by a man who died ten years ago, after which the 316 was driven by his now deceased widow. The heirs have now offered the car for sale at the company.
In short, a 316 like you will not soon encounter. One in which you do not have to expect any special performance or luxury, but it is really a car for an enthusiast. An opportunity, perhaps. Especially when you consider that the asking price is €3,950. Not bad at all, in our view.
