The BMW iX was already briefly in our country this week, so that colleague Joas could walk around it extensively. We now also know what the delivery range will be, so it is high time to see what you are looking for exactly for the pretty solid asking price.
BMW iX xDrive40 – €86,932.11
In fact, we only make it easy for ourselves by sawing through an electrical model in ‘Back to Basics’. In addition to technically, manufacturers also seem to be increasingly following in Tesla’s footsteps in terms of sales model. That means fewer individual options, fewer model variants and a richer standard equipment, in order to streamline the production and sales process as much as possible.
This is no different with the iX. BMW supplies it as xDrive40 and xDrive50 and in both cases there is actually no option list. However, the car is available as Essense, Balance and Signature. Even with the Essense you can opt for a Sports package, where the term ‘M’ is remarkably scrupulously avoided. Typical, because with a sportier front and rear bumper, ditto wheels and blue brake calipers, you can certainly compare this with what is called an M package on other models.
22-inch
However, the standard version of the iX is also already on 22-inch light metal, so it does not come across as silly. Buyers can opt for 21-inch copies free of charge, where there is even a choice of two variants. That seems strange and unusual, but undoubtedly the 21-inch wheel offers advantages when it comes to consumption and comfort. In terms of exterior colors, the choice for the ‘knakenrijder’ is limited with 86 mille: ‘Alpinweiss’ is the only free option. The finish of the body is black, where the slightly more decorated introduction versions, among other things, get a typical bronze color under the side windows.
Still, the theme of ‘color’ is still time-consuming here, because BMW offers no fewer than three variants for the interior at no extra cost. In addition to the obvious black, there is a choice of ‘Mokka’ (dark brown) and ‘Oyster’ (almost white), in all cases combined with copper-coloured elements in a special way.
4 zones
Regardless of the color chosen, the iX interior looks very complete. The imposing, somewhat curved screen combination, for example, is just standard and contains all kinds of smart connectivity functions in addition to navigation. BMW also provides climate control with no less than four different zones, so that everyone can keep their own temperature. A heat pump ensures that heating is carried out as efficiently as possible, while heated and ventilated seats keep the front occupants warm with minimal loss.
Fresh
A wireless phone charger is also standard, just like BMW’s Driving Assistant package that keeps the iX neatly between the lines under certain conditions. All in all, the standard equipment of the iX is more than decent and a metallic color is actually enough to make it look very complete. It is true that the car is still very fresh and due to the lack of a definitive price list, not everything is clear yet. Perhaps the car may be given a second chance, but for now it looks good.
iX3
With a starting price of € 86,932.11 to be exact (yes, really), the iX is a lot more expensive than the iX3, which has also been featured in this section. However, it is also larger, has four-wheel drive and is further technologically advanced. A larger action radius is not in it. For the base price you get an iX xDrive40 and that means a WLTP range of 416 km, where the iX3 promises 460 km. The iX strikes back when it comes to speed, because with 326 hp and a 0-100 time of 6.1 seconds, this ‘entry-level’ is already well off its place.
