BMW X1 and X2 plug-in hybrids

Along with the previously announced plug-in hybrid BMX X1, the related X2 also appears as a plug hybrid. Thanks to the electric motor on the rear axle, these models can be powered by four wheels.

BMW previously announced that the updated X1 with plug-in hybrid powertrain xDrive25e will appear. Along with that debut, later this spring, the plug hybrid version of the related X2 will also debut. Exact introduction date and prices will follow.

The xDrive25e powertrain of the X2 has almost the same specifications as those of the X1. The front wheels of the car can be driven by a 125 hp 1.3 three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, coupled to a 6-speed Steptronic automatic. In addition, there is a 70 kW (converted 95 hp) strong electric motor, which can make the rear wheels roll via a 1-stage transmission.

The joint system output amounts to a maximum of 220 hp and 385 Nm of torque; this pull is fully available immediately after starting the car. The 0-100 km / h sprint can therefore be over in 6.8 seconds. The speed stop is 195 km / h.

The X2 can automatically determine which wheels to drive, but the driver can make this choice with the eDrive button. If you opt for fully electric, the (theoretical) action radius is between 54 and 57 km. If the engines work together, you have four-wheel drive – unique for the X2 model.

Depending on how you press the gas pedal, gas mileage is, according to the manufacturer, on average between 1.9 and 2.1 liters / 100 km. Electricity would be between 13.7 and 14.2 kWh / 100 km. Keep in mind that the batteries under the rear seat lead to less luggage space. However, this position would contribute to a better balance. The car can be charged at a normal power outlet. With a BMW i Wallbox, full charging takes around 3 hours and 15 minutes.
