BMW X5 M Competition

The BMW X5 and X6 were recently fairly radically facelifted and now the absolute top versions of that SUV duo have also climbed off the cutting table. Meet the renewed BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition, fierce mild-hybrid beasts with no less than 625 hp.

At the beginning of February, BMW pulled the curtain on the updated X5 and X6. The facelifted SUVs received, among other things, a renewed front, complete with flatter headlights and new bumpers. In addition, BMW brought its Operating System 8 with the now well-known Curved Display to the X5 and X6 and there was also news on a technical level. Among other things, a new plug-in hybrid powertrain was introduced, but the rest of the engine range was also technically fine-tuned. For example, every machine now has a 48V mild-hybrid system. Now BMW presents the absolute top versions of the X5 and X6: the M Competitions.

Before the facelift, the BMW X5 and X6 were available as 530 hp M and as 600 hp M Competitions. After the modernization round, only the superlatives of the M versions seem to remain. So the M Competitions. Just like the M60i, the BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition get a new 4.4 V8 and in the M Competitions the eight-cylinder also benefits from the arrival of a mild hybrid system. This makes the two top versions the first M models with a 48V mild hybrid powertrain. The two sporty top versions are now 625 hp and 750 Nm strong. The electric motor housed in the otherwise renewed eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission supports the powertrain with 12 hp and 200 Nm. With its new V8, the X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The top speed of both muscle bundles is normally 250 km/h, but can be increased to 290 km/h as an option. More technical news: BMW has adapted the M xDrive all-wheel drive. From now on, more power can be sent to the rear wheels. The geometry of the rear suspension has also been revised. An adaptive M chassis complete with active roll stabilization is standard. In addition, the steering has also been revised, as has the brakes.

From the outside you can recognize the pair by the sportier-looking bumper work and the black accents in it, around the black grille and at the side screens. At the bottom of the buttocks you will find a set with two exhaust tailpipes on either side. Both models have 21-inch large alloy wheels at the front and 22-inch large ones at the rear.

The renewed BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition will come to the Netherlands in June, but the prices are already known. BMW is asking €224,302 for the X5 M Competition and €228,283 for the X6 M Competition.
