BMW Z4

The current BMW Z4 is now four years old and so the time is considered ripe in Munich for a facelift. However, facelift.. BMW gives the Z4 an extremely subtle refresh that is probably only noticed by the Z4 connoisseur.

As thoroughly as BMW recently gave the X7 a facelift, the brand works so subtly during the fine-tuning of the Z4. The BMW Z4 M40i with 340 hp 3.0 in-line six was always equipped with the M Sport package as standard. This package – which, among other things, brings sportier bumper work to the Z4 – is now standard on all Z4s in an updated form. Indeed, so also on the Z4 with four cylinders. Then we are talking about the sDrive20i with 197 hp 2.0 and the sDrive30i with a 258 hp version of that two-liter. The Advantage, Sport Line and the individual M Sport option will be discontinued across the entire delivery range.

Regardless of the chosen engine version, every BMW Z4 now has a front bumper with three large openings. Another interesting but still subtle change we find in the grille. Although it retains its shape, the kidneys are filled in with a calmer-looking mesh. You can recognize the Z4 M40i, among other things, by its trapezoidal exhaust tailpipes and the gray side mirror caps. BMW also brings new M alloy and three new paint colors to the Z4. Furthermore, M Lights Shadow Line is new, an option that can be ordered in combination with the also optional adaptive LED headlights. M Lights Shadow Line gives the headlights dark inserts. Every Z4 comes standard with things like two-zone separated climate control, parking sensors front and rear and seat heating.

The renewed BMW Z4 is also built again in Austria by Magna Steyr, which has already produced about 55,000 copies of the current Z4 generation. Germany is by far the largest market for the Z4, roughly 26 percent of all built copies of the current Z4 drive around there. The refreshed BMW Z4 should be on the market around November. As before, the sDrive20i is back in other markets with a six-speed manual transmission. Whether the sDrive20i will be delivered in combination with a manual gearbox in addition to an automatic transmission in the Netherlands is not yet known at the time of writing.
