‘British ban on combustion engine brought forward ten years’

The combustion engine will no longer have a long life in the United Kingdom. As of 2030, there will no longer be any new cars with an internal combustion engine for sale, it will probably be officially announced soon.

More than three years ago, the British government came up with a firm plan to ban the combustion engine by 2040. That goal is according to The Guardian now no less than a full decade earlier. Intercepted government plans would indicate that this revised target will be announced soon.

If that is the case, there will be no new fuel-powered cars in UK showrooms in ten years’ time. Second-hand cars will of course still be allowed for the time being. The original plans state that they will be banned from the public road in 2050, ten years after the ban on new cars with an ICE. Now it is getting exciting whether that goal will also get closer to ten years.

Whether it all turns out to be feasible naturally depends on a good infrastructure. The revised plans come according to The Guardian therefore not without a tightening up of policy in that area. According to the new plans, the faster expansion of charging options should ensure that people in the UK are actually ready for it by 2030. Sometime this fall, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will reveal the details.
