The Chinese equivalent of Uber has teamed up with car manufacturer Build Your Dreams (BYD) to develop an electric car that will serve purely as a taxi. The spatially electric hatchback bears the name D1.
BYD and taxi service Didi have jointly developed an electric car that will be used by Didi: the D1. According to various Chinese media, the BYD D1 is 4.39 meters long. Its height of 1.65 meters should provide enough interior space. The D1 is equipped with sliding doors to make getting in and out of busy city centers just that little bit easier.
BYD D1
The BYD BD1 has a 136 hp and 180 Nm strong electric motor that drives the front wheels. This electric motor helps the 2-tonne D1 to a top speed of 130 km / h. According to the NEDC cycle, the D1 should be able to travel 418 kilometers with it. The D1 is packed with sensors and hardware that allow the car to go around autonomously (level 2). The interior is very simple in design, but does not look particularly bare with its wood finish, among other things. A ventilation opening runs the full width of the dashboard and behind the steering wheel is a small display that shows essential information. A separate infotainment display is placed centrally on the dashboard. Between the front seats is a button island and an inductive charger for smartphones. In addition to a fold-out cup holder and two USB ports, rear seat occupants can also gaze happily at an infotainment display placed in front of each passenger’s nose. More extensive technical specifications are not yet available.
