A strange hotel
The Rusty Lake Hotel is a very mysterious place, with a strange, Twin Peaks-esque atmosphere. During the day there is little going on, but when the night falls terrible things happen that always causes a guest to die.
At its core, Rusty Lake Hotel is a puzzle game. A kind of escape room, except that never everyone comes out of the room alive. Every time you close a room door behind you, you have to solve a series of puzzles before you can get out again. You do this by tapping on objects or places in the room and paying close attention to hints. Some rooms contain brain teasers, but it never gets frustratingly tricky. Because each room is themed by the guest (for example, the rabbit is a magician) it remains varied.
Mystery and stars
Thanks to the graphic style, the game always remains clear. Everything is drawn and clearly displayed, so that it is immediately clear what you can and cannot click on. That often makes the intention visible a little faster, which is nice. Thanks to the drawings and setting, the atmosphere always remains vague and mysterious. The music and the growl of the beastly guests contribute to this.
While you get to know the hotel, its guests and the rooms, you can also try to get three stars per ‘level’ by serving the evening dinner every day to the best of your ability. You always have to find three ingredients for that. If you have them all, the guests will rate the dish at three stars, otherwise you will get fewer.

If you really can’t solve a puzzle, the game offers a link from the app to YouTube, where videos explain what the intention is. The power of Rusty Lake Hotel, however, lies in discovering the mysterious building and what is going on for yourself. For that you have to crack your brain every now and then, but solving a puzzle gives a good feeling. Even if the puzzle is not so logical and you just tap the screen.
