The number of car thefts decreased by 16 percent in 2021 to 5404. The most stolen models are the Volkswagen Golf and Polo, but that makes sense, because there are a lot of them on the road. The Toyota RAV4 runs the greatest risk of theft: 1 in 183 copies is stolen.
The number of car thefts has been declining for years. In 2017, 8257 passenger vehicles were stolen, in 2021 ‘only’ 5404, according to figures from the National Vehicle Crime Information Center. If you are the victim of theft, the chance that your car will be found by the police is 45 percent. That percentage is slowly increasing. In 2017 it was 40 percent.
