Campers are especially popular
You may think that caravans and campers especially make the hearts of older Dutch people beat faster. What seems? Caravan and camper ownership has increased sharply among Dutch young people.
Between January 1, 2020 and September this year, the number of caravans and campers in the Netherlands increased by 7 percent, according to figures from the Camping and Caravan Industry (KCI). What seems? Ownership of caravans and campers among Dutch people up to 25 years old increased by no less than 53 percent during that period. Caravans and campers have also increased sharply in the age category 26 to 35 years, by 35.5 percent.
Camper vans in particular appear to be gaining in popularity. Especially among young people. In the age category up to and including 25 years, camper ownership increased by no less than 105 percent. So a large doubling. In the age category from 26 to 35 years, the increase between January 2020 and September this year was also a significant 70 percent. There are currently more than 415,000 caravans and more than 180,000 campers in the Netherlands.
According to Leo Diepemaat – chairman of the KCI – the caravan or camper has become an attractive alternative to the plane for young people since corona, ANP writes. “Caravan and camper ownership is often associated with affluent retirees, but these figures clearly show that young adults and young families have also discovered or rediscovered camping. […] Go where you want, regardless of tour operators, corona effects or queues at airports.”
