This is new in CarPlay 2.0

At Aston Martin, the 2024 Aston Martin DB12 will be the first to receive CarPlay 2.0, at Porsche the update will come to the 2024 Porsche Cayenne. In these cars, CarPlay takes over almost all of the car’s screens. With the updated version of the operating system you can finally operate certain functions of the car yourself, all you have to do is connect your iPhone to the car.

This will soon make it possible to control the air conditioning, radio and lighting in the vehicle via CarPlay. These settings appear on the control panel, so you no longer need the car’s physical buttons. This is not yet possible with the current version of CarPlay, as the operating system is now limited to the functions on your iPhone. With CarPlay 2.0, Apple’s operating system is much better integrated into your car.

Other car systems are also better integrated with CarPlay 2.0. You will then see the speed, fuel level and temperature of the car in CarPlay. Apple emphasizes that the company does not have access to this data, so your privacy remains well protected. This privacy policy is one of the reasons for car company General Motors to stop using CarPlay.

It is not yet known when these cars will receive CarPlay 2.0, which will happen sometime in 2024.
