Manage more features with CarPlay

In iOS 17.4, Apple added the first versions of the new Climate and Media app. It is a good sign that the icons of the apps have been updated in iOS 18.2, because that means that Apple is actively working on CarPlay 2.0. With the new generation of CarPlay you get access to almost all the car’s functions. This way you can control the heating and air conditioning with the Climate app. You can listen to the radio with the Media app.

These functions cannot yet be operated via CarPlay, but only via the (physical) buttons in the car. With CarPlay 2.0, you only need Apple’s operating system for all the settings of your car. You can also switch on the car’s (rear view) camera via CarPlay, you can see how much battery percentage or petrol the vehicle has left and it is possible to check the tire pressure with CarPlay.

CarPlay 2.0 release still unclear

With CarPlay 2.0, Apple also adds widgets to the operating system, so that you can view all information much more clearly on the screen. Moreover, almost all screens in your car are taken over with the new generation of CarPlay. While the operating system is now only displayed on the center display of the car, CarPlay 2.0 also takes over the screen with the speedometer.

It is still not known when the first cars with CarPlay 2.0 will be released. Thanks to the test version of iOS 18.2, we know for sure that Apple is still working on the new generation of CarPlay.
