CarPlay gets Apple Intelligence
Apple has rolled out the first features of Apple Intelligence in the United States. Users there can get started with features such as Writing Assistant, Genmoji and the updated version of Siri. With iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, Apple Intelligence is introduced on the iPhone and iPad. The Mac is also being expanded with new AI functions, but that is not all. Apple Intelligence is also coming to CarPlay.
This concerns the new generation of Siri that will soon also be available with CarPlay. Apple’s voice assistant gets a new design, because the edges of your iPhone, iPad, Mac or CarPlay screen light up with Apple Intelligence as soon as Siri is active. That is a big difference with the current version of Siri, which appears as a small dot on the screen. Apple Intelligence gives Siri access to many more language models, making the voice assistant sound more natural and smarter. This makes pronouncing (street) names much better.
Notifications silenced (or not)
Don’t want to be distracted while driving? Then Apple Intelligence introduces another useful improvement to the ‘Driving’ focus for CarPlay. This focus already exists, but Reduce Interruptions works better with the help of artificial intelligence. This feature ensures that notifications are silenced when you navigate via CarPlay. Apple Intelligence will soon distinguish between relevant and irrelevant notifications.
Apple Intelligence uses language models for this purpose. Messages are analyzed using these models, so that only important messages are allowed through while driving. This way you are not unnecessarily distracted by notifications or messages. Do you get a lot of notifications? Then, with the help of Apple Intelligence, Siri can read a short summary via CarPlay, so that you do not have to read all the messages yourself.
Apple Intelligence in the Netherlands
CarPlay gets a number of useful functions with Apple Intelligence. Siri becomes much smarter and has less difficulty pronouncing street names. Moreover, you are less likely to be distracted by the improvement of Reduce Interruptions. Would you like to know what the messages you have received are about? It is then possible to have all notifications summarized by Apple Intelligence.
In the Netherlands and Belgium we will have to wait a little longer for the new technology, because Apple Intelligence will not be available until April 2025. That is also the time when you can use Apple Intelligence with CarPlay, provided your iPhone works with the new technology. Apple has announced that we will be able to use the core functions in the spring. These are features such as Writing Assistant, Genmoji and the updated version of Siri. So just a little patience, because Apple Intelligence is coming to the European Union.
