CBR conducts more than million theory exams

Never before has the Central Bureau for Driving Skills Certificates (CBR) taken so many theory exams in one year as this year. For the first time in its almost 100 years of existence, the CBR has administered more than a million exams in a single calendar year. And the counter is still ticking up.

General director of the CBR and former D66 politician Alexander Pechtold was summoned on Thursday to put the millionth theory exam candidate in the spotlight. It is the first time that the CBR has conducted one million theory exams in one year. The CBR is expected to reach a total of 1,052,500 theory exams this year. An absolute record. The number of practical exams and tests that the CBR will conduct this year is also likely to break a record. The CBR aims to have taken 755,000 practical exams by the end of this year.

The majority of the theoretical exams taken are exams for the B driving license. It concerns 700,000 theory exams. In addition, about 90,000 theory exams were taken for mopeds and 70,000 for motorcycles. In addition, 33,000 theory tests for the minor certificate and about 140,000 professional exams were taken. Think of theory exams for bus, taxi, truck and executive drivers. Alexander Pechtold reacts positively, but clearly indicates that he prefers to see other types of records. ‘One million is a great milestone, which was achieved thanks to the great efforts of my colleagues. But in our opinion, this number should be lowered. I prefer to see other records: more successful candidates who have completed the exam after just one exam.’

The CBR has been able to conduct many exams, among other things, because it has extended its opening hours to clear the backlog that has built up due to the corona pandemic.
