According to rumors, Apple will soon come with a combination of a homepod and an iPad. This homepad thus becomes the perfect home hub!
Homepad is coming this spring (with these functions)
Apple is coming this year with a number of new smart products. The new version of the HomePod is perhaps the most interesting. This new version of the following HomePod will get a screen. It will then be a kind of iPad screen and that is why this new HomePod on the internet is already called ‘Homepad’.
According to rumors, the new Homepad will have a 7-inch display with a camera on the top, a built-in rechargeable battery and the homeos operating system. The focus will be on video apps such as Facetime, support for many Apple apps, a dashboard based on the standby mode of the iPhone, operating your smart home and support for Apple Intelligence.
The current HomePod (€ 325.99) appeared in 2023 and has a touch surface. You can find this surface at the top of the speaker, where you control the volume and pause the audio. This is a small touchscreen, but that display becomes much bigger with the next HomePod.
In addition to the HomePod, you can also use the HomePod Mini, Apple TV or an iPad as a kind of home hub (see also This Apple Support page). You need such a home hub to operate your homekit and Matter accessories if you are not at home, but also to share the operation of your accessories with others and to automate your accessories.
Yet these devices do not feel like a real hub. This way you can control your other devices via the current HomePod, but that is necessary with Siri. And we have to admit: that doesn’t always work well.
You can of course use your iPhone or iPad to control other devices via the home app. Some fanatic Apple users have already used their old iPad for that. But it is not a real, full hub for your Apple devices.
