The CBR has fallen behind enormously in exams due to the corona crisis. The CBR has announced a number of measures to eliminate this backlog. Bovag thinks this is partly unrealistic and came up with its own addition. The CBR will not take over this.
The CBR has set a fairly drastic requirement for driving schools: if the average pass rate at the end of May has not increased by at least four percent, the CBR will raise the minimum age for the practical exam from 17 to 18 years. De Bovag told BNR Nieuwsradio today that it is unrealistic to expect the success rate to rise so quickly in such a short time. That is why the Bovag proposed to shorten the current exam time from 55 to 50 or 45 minutes, so that the examiners can take more exams in a day. This should enable the CBR to clear up the backlogs a lot faster, but the organization does not respond to this.
Opposite it AD a spokeswoman for the CBR states that she is aware of the Bovag’s proposal, but that the CBR will not accept it. The suggestion to shorten the exams would have already been made in the discussions with driving schools in preparation for the action plan, but had already been rejected by then. “We don’t compromise the quality of the exam,” she says. “The exam takes less than an hour, including the preliminary interview and the final interview. The exam ride itself takes about 35 minutes. That is quite short when you consider what must be tested by law. A driving license in a driver’s license for half an hour for your life. increasingly complex traffic, that is nothing too much to ask. ” According to the spokesperson, all parts of the exam are ‘very important for road safety’ and no concessions can be made.
Currently, the CBR is actively recruiting new examiners, asking current staff to work overtime and temporarily helping retired examiners. That extra manpower, in combination with the requirement for a higher pass rate, should clear the backlog of some 300,000 practical exams. The backlog is about the same for the theory exams, but the CBR has not yet received the green light for the reopening of the exam rooms.
